Jeff Russell, IAPAMThe use of hCG has a storied past, it is actually a hormone that naturally occurs in the urine of pregnant women. hCG is nothing new, it was actually first discovered as a weight loss aid in 1954, by British physician Dr. A.T.W. Simeons’ with his “Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity” manuscript. He “discovered that a small quantity (125 to 250 I.U.) of hCG administered once daily for a short period of time (23 to 46 days) in combination with a very low calorie diet (VLCD) consisting of 500 calories, produced an average weight loss of 1 pound per day.” Why am I so excited about hCG, well in January 2010 I did hCG for 34 days and lost 30lbs, a year later I’m still within 2lbs of my last hCG day weight, so I know it works! Why the interest in effective weight management? The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reports that “more than two-thirds of adults and one-third of children in America are obese or at risk for obesity.”  Equally, the fifth annual 2008 F as in Fat report, from the Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), found that obesity rates rose for a second consecutive year in 24 states and for a third consecutive year in 19 states, and “no state saw a decrease” in its rates of obesity. Finally, adding insult to injury, in March 2009, Richard Hamburg, Government Relations Director of the TFAH testified before a U.S. House Committee on Nutrition stating that, “nutritionists are now worried that Americans will put on ‘recession pounds,’ pointing to studies linking obesity and unhealthy eating habits to lowering incomes.” Read more
