This specialty is primarily focused on the pathophysiology of aging skin, and adheres to scientific based procedures. Aesthetic Medicine Industry Growth

According to the American Society for Plastic Surgeeons, the number of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in the United States increased performed in 2007 increased by 81 percent from 2000. Over 11.7 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2007. The most frequently performed procedure was Botox injection.

The top five nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in 2007 were:

      1. Botox® injections - 4,600,000
      2. Hyaluronic acid (Hylaform, Restylane®) - 1,051,000
      3. Chemical Peels - 1,025,000
      4. Laser hair removal - 906,000
      5. Microdermabrasion - 897,000
      6. Laser Skin Resurfacing - 576,509
